Influence of warm isostatic press (WIP) process parameters on mechanical properties of additively manufactured acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) parts

Abstract Owing to the deposition mechanism, parts fabricated from material extrusion (ME) process have intrinsic air gaps that negatively impact their mechanical properties. Thus, amount of should be minimized. In this study, a warm isostatic press (WIP) was adopted decrease gaps, resulting in improved properties using acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). To identify changes properties, tensile tests were performed with specimens heat-treated by WIP processes different pressure–temperature profiles. The influence temperature and pressure on strength, elongation at break, toughness investigated. Water tightness evaluation conducted prove air-gap size. Based investigation, concluded effective for decreasing improving owing increase bonding force between lines layers, which led suggestion method optimizes parameters process.
